Lady Eagles Pick Up Win Over Itawamba

Lady Eagles Pick Up Win Over Itawamba

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles entered play Thursday in eighth place in the MACJC. The top eight teams qualify for the state softball tournament. A win over #6 Itawamba Community College would have greatly increased the Lady Eagles chances of making the state tournament. The Lady Eagles picked up the much needed win in game two 2-0.

After dropping the first game of the doubleheader 10-0 the Lady Eagles displayed the determination and grit that has driven them all season. The Lady Eagles picked up and early run to take a 1-0 lead. That would be all that Sophomore pitcher Hayleigh Rogers would need. Rogers pitched a complete game shutout and limited the Lady Indians offense all game.

Clinging to a 1-0 lead the Lady Eagles added an insurance run in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. Rogers would finish out the shutout to give the Lady Eagles the 2-0 win.

With the win the Lady Eagles finish the regular season 23-19 overall and 15-13 in MACJC play. The Lady Eagles will have to wait for their playoff fate until Sunday once all other MACJC play has finished.
