Eagles Extend Winning Streak To Seven

The 7th ranked Meridian Community College Eagles continued their winning ways Friday afternoon with a pair of wins over Nunez Community College. The Eagles have now won seven straight games. The Eagles picked up the 12-2 win in game one and won 15-2 in game two.

The Eagles fell behind in the first after a pair of doubles gave the Pelicans a 1-0 lead. The Eagles responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. Davis Ferguson got things started with a two-run single and was followed up by a two-run double from Jean Torres. The Eagles added to the lead in the second inning with a solo homer from Kace Garner to put the Eagles up 5-1.

The big inning for the Eagles came in the third when they scored five runs. Markarius Lee had a two-run single to put the Eagles up 7-1. Lee was followed up by Hootie Parker who cleared the bases with a three-run homer to put the Eagles up 10-1.

Lee and Parker added to the lead in the fourth as Lee had a rbi double followed up by Parker with a rbi single. The Eagles closed things out in the fifth to pick up the run-rule victory.

Parker led the Eagles with four rbi’s and Lee added three rbi’s. Davis Ferguson added a pair of hits and a pair of rbi’s for the Eagles.

David Dunn led the Eagles to victory on the mound. He lasted three innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three and walking one. Austin Allen threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Eagles offensive success continued in game two as they exploded for four runs in the bottom of the first. The big shot of the inning came from Davis Ferguson. Ferguson drove one over the left field fence for a grand slam to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead.

The Eagles continued to pile on the runs in the second. Logan Stewart got the scoring started with a rbi double. Kace Garner then cleared the bases with a three-run double to push the lead to 8-0. Jean Torres finished out the scoring with a rbi double. The Eagles added two more in the third. Colton Hipp hit a two-run homer to put the Eagles up 11-0.

The Eagles would add four more in the bottom of the fourth to finish out the scoring. Ferguson led the way for the Eagles in game two with four rbi’s. Garner and Hipp both added three rbi’s. Ferguson, Hipp, and Lee all had multiple hits.

Luke Wallner picked up the win in game two. Wallner threw four innings of three hit ball. He had three strikeouts and allowed one walk. Tyler Lantz came in for one inning of relief to close out the game.

With the wins, MCC improves to 8-2 on the season. The Eagles are scheduled to be back in action Wednesday, March 13 against Coastal Alabama-South. The Eagles will travel to Bay Minette, Alabama for the doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
