The Lady Eagles of Meridian Community College went on the road to Northwest Mississippi Community College for a doubleheader Thursday. The Lady Eagles picked up a split winning game one 8-4 and falling in game two 4-2.
The Lady Rangers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Lady Eagles would respond with a homer from Miracle Crosby to tie it at 1-1 in the third inning.
The Lady Eagles took their first lead of the day in the fourth inning. Alyssa Branyan led things off with a single. Tykirra Bouldin entered to pinch run and would come around to score on a single by Jada Henderson to put the Lady Eagles up 2-1.
After the Lady Rangers tied it up at 2-2 the Lady Eagles would answer with four runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. The big blow in the fifth was a three-run homer from Alyssa Branyan. In the bottom of the fifth the Lady Rangers picked up a pair of runs to cut the Lady Eagle lead to 6-4.
The Lady Eagles manufactured a pie of runs in the sixth to push the lead back to four at 8-4. They would hold the Lady Rangers scoreless over their final two at-bats to pick up the 8-4 victory.
Kaitlyn Parrish was the winning pitcher for the Lady Eagles. She allowed seven hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out five.
The Lady Eagles struggled offensively in game two. The Lady Rangers carries a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning when the Lady Eagles were able to get the bats going. Kelsey Patterson got it started with a double. Aahliya Jones followed with a two-run homer to cut it to a 4-2 deficit.
The Lady Eagles were unable to pull any closer falling by the score of 4-2.
With the split, the Lady Eagles are now 12-10 on the season. They are 5-5 in MACJC play. The Lady Eagles will return to action Wednesday, April 3 against Pearl River Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00.
