Eagles Fall in Close Games

The Meridian Community College basketball teams dropped a pair of games Monday evening at Graham Gymnasium. Both the women and men put up valiant efforts but came up on the losing end.

In the first game of the night, the Lady Eagles of Meridian Community College fell to Jones College by the final score of 69-56. This was a back and forth game throughout the evening with both teams never able to build a significant large lead. At the half, the Lady Eagles trailed 32-30.

Jones came out to start the 3rd quarter and built a lead that they would not relinquish. The Lady Eagles were able to trim the deficit to five points midway through the 4th quarter but were never able to get it any closer.

The Lady Eagles were led on the night by LaChrisha Williams with 11 points. Mariah Collins added 9 points on the evening.

With the loss, the Lady Eagles fall to 4-4 on the season. The Lady Eagles will return to action on Thursday, December 6 against Bishop State Community College. Tip-off will be at 5:30 pm in Graham Gymnasium on the Meridian Community College campus.

The Meridian Community College Eagles got off to a slow start and fought back throughout the game before falling by the final score of 74-70. Jones got off to a fast start jumping out to a 25-10 lead early in the first half. The Eagles were able to cut into this lead and by halftime were trailing 35-29.

The second half was back and forth throughout its entirety. The Eagles were able to take the lead halfway through the half. Throughout the final ten minutes of the game, there were numerous lead changes and neither team could build a lead of more than five. The Eagles had the ball with a chance to tie it with ten seconds left but were unable to get a shot off.

Kylan Hamilton was the leading scorer for the Eagles. Hamilton led the way with 21 points. Alvarez Powell added 20 points on the night.

With the loss the Eagles fall to 4-2 on the season. The Eagles will be back in action Thursday, December 6 against Bishop State Community College. Tip-off will be at 7:30 pm.
