Alvarez Powell signs with The University of Arkansas at Monticello

Meridian -Basketball standout Alvarez Powell (Senatobia High School) has signed his letter of intent to play at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Alvarez said, "I am extremely blessed to have this opportunity to go to school and do what I love at the university level."

Head Coach James Green said, "I have no doubt Alvarez will be successful at UAM. He has been a good citizen, a good student, and a good player for MCC. He is a role model for all college athletes, and we appreciate his commitment and dedication to our program. We wish the utmost success"

Alvarez averaged 13 points and 5 rebounds for the Eagles this season. Most of his production came from behind the arc, where he shot 35%. His most memorable night came in an 81-73 win at Copiah Lincoln Community College, where he had 23 points and 9 rebounds.

Alvarez said, "I have learned a lot in the two years I have been at MCC in basketball and academics. MCC was a great experience, and it impacted my life, and I will always be glad to call my self and Eagle."
