Entering his second season as head coach of the Meridian Community College women’s volleyball program, Alex Schimelpfening is looking to build on the foundation laid during the team’s inaugural season. As MCC volleyball enters its second year, Schimelpfening is focused on helping the Eagles excel and establish themselves as a competitive force in the MACCC.

Coach Schimelpfening brings a wealth of experience and a passion for developing volleyball athletes to MCC. Prior to starting the program, he spent five years dedicating himself to nurturing and honing the skills of volleyball athletes aiming to excel at the high school and collegiate levels. His coaching career includes serving as an assistant women’s volleyball coach at Lamar School, where he gained valuable experience guiding players in a competitive setting.

In addition to his coaching experience, Schimelpfening and his wife, Courtney, have played a pivotal role in growing the sport of volleyball in Lauderdale County and the surrounding region. In September 2019, they opened Queen City Athletics Volleyball Club, an organization that has driven the rapid expansion of volleyball opportunities in East Mississippi and West Alabama.

As co-owners and directors of Queen City Athletics Volleyball Club, Alex and Courtney have hosted more than 30 clinics for athletes of all ages and skill levels, from teaching 4-6-year-olds the fundamentals of the sport to conducting advanced hitting clinics for collegiate athletes. Since its founding, their club has trained over 400 athletes and led 14 teams across various age groups, competing at both regional and national levels. Their teams now compete in national competitions at the highest competitive divisions, showcasing the impact of their dedication to player development.

Coach Schimelpfening is committed to fostering a competitive and supportive environment for MCC volleyball student-athletes as he looks to elevate the program in its second season.
