MCC Golf finishes 7th at NJCAA DII Golf National Championship

JOPLIN, MO - MCC Golf finishes 7th at NJCAA DII Golf National Championship.

After day one, the Eagles were in first place (295) at Twin Hills Golf Club behind solid play from Sophomores Brett Baker (73) and Diego Leslie (73). Both played well all week, and Baker finished 13th overall and made the second-team All-American, and Leslie made All-American honorable mention.

The Eagles slid down 2 spots to 3rd after a day two score of (301). On day three, mother nature decided to join the party and caused a rain delay that took the Eagles entirely out of their rhythm, causing them to have their worst round of the tournament shooting (315). The Eagles bounced back some with a final round score of (307) which left them tied for 7th with Heartland CC.

Head Coach Ronnie Key said, "It was great having the lead after day 1, but it can also be a curse. We played the second round ok, but struggled after a long weather delay on the third round." Key added, " I am very proud of this team, we had a lot of adversity, but they kept working hard, and we had a great year." The Eagles finished the season with 5 MACCC tournament wins, including the MACCC Conference Championship.

Before the start of the tournament, an award ceremony was held where Ethan Dyess was named second-team Ping All-American for the 3rd year in a row. Diego Leslie and Joseph Berry join Dyess on the All-region team as well. Joseph Berry was named to the All-Freshman team, which is the top 5 freshmen in the country. Coach Key said, " I'm proud of the accomplishments of these guys. Those are huge honors, and they are well deserving of them." Key added, " We will miss our sophomores who have fought through Covid and many other obstacles to lead our team to another successful year."

This makes the 6th season in a row the Eagles, led by head coach Ronnie Key and assistant coach David Rosenbaum, have finished in the top 10 nationally.
