Brad Grinstead becomes new MCC Softball Coach
Meridian- MCC Athletic Director Sander Atkinson announces hiring Brad Grinstead as the new softball coach for Meridian Community College.
Grinstead takes over for Faith Robinson, who spent the past ten seasons at the helm of the softball program.
Sander Atkinson said, " We are excited for Coach Grinstead to join the MCC Athletics family. I look forward to seeing the impact of his experience and coaching on our softball program."
Brad said," I would like to thank Dr. Huebner, Sander Atkinson, and the Meridian Community College community for this opportunity and support to lead the softball program. I am beyond excited to get on campus and work on bringing a MACCC championship to MCC."
"One of my top priorities is touching base with the new and returning players and getting to know each of them," said Grinstead.
Brad most recently served as an assistant coach at MS Gulf Coast Community College, but before moving to Perkinston, Brad was the head coach at MS Delta Community College for four seasons. In his second year at MDCC, the team set a record for wins in a season and picked up the program's first win over a top 10 nationally-ranked opponent. He placed players on the All-MACCC first-team both years, and his 2020 team finished with a 3.59 grade-point average.
Grinstead served as an assistant at Lyon College before MDCC, where they also set a school record for wins in a season and placed second in their conference.
Grinstead is a Colorado native, but he received his Bachelor's degree in kinesiology at Hendrix College in Conway, AR. As a member of the Warrior baseball team at Hendrix, Brad hit .312 for three seasons but missed his senior season due to injury. He received All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention in 2010 and was on the SCAC Academic Honor Roll. Grinstead led the Warriors to the 2009 SCAC Tournament title, resulting in a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
