MCC Eagles are headed back to Clinton
Eagles in familiar place this time
MERIDIAN- The MCC Eagles are again back in Clinton, MS, for the NJCAA Region 23 semifinals.
The MCC Eagles finished the regular season 16-8 overall and 8-6 in MACCC play, putting them as the #7 seed in the NJCAA Region 23 tournament. MCC defeated the Holmes Bulldogs Monday night in the tournament's first round 72-65. The Eagles had no time to celebrate because they had to pack up and head to Eunice, LA, to face the #2 seed LSUE Bengals.
The Eagles went to the Cajun Prairie and took care of business like they've done all season, defeating the Bengals 72-57. MCC was led by third-year guard Chris Terrell who had 21 points, 15 in the first half. Three other Eagles finished in double figures, Makeem Roberts and Randarius Hughes had 11, and Ruebon Kelly added 10.
The Eagles will now face the #11 seed Coahoma Tigers at 7:00 p.m. at Mississippi College. The Eagles and Tigers have squared off twice this season, and MCC returned with the win both times. In the last game of the first semester, the Eagles went to Coahoma and defeated the Tigers 60-58. When conference play started in January, the Tigers came to Meridian, and the Eagles won 72-66. MCC hopes the trend continues. The winner of this game will face the winner of EMCC and Jones, who play at 5:00 p.m.
This is familiar territory for James Green's Eagles, as they played for the NJCAA Region 23 title just one year ago. The Eagles were NJCAA runners-up to the Pearl River Wildcats in 2022.
Spectators can purchase tickets for the tournament at Mississippi College at the door for $8.00. All MCC games will be live-streamed at mcceagles.live/white-channel.
