DeJaVu, The Eagles are back in the Championship

CLINTON- The MCC Eagles hold off the Coahoma Tigers, 80-72, to advance to the NJCAA Region 23 Championship.

The first half was all MCC, running away to a 40-19 point lead. Talib Ferrette paced the Eagles with 14 points at the break, including three 3-point baskets. Fetrette finished the game with a team high 20 points. 

The Tigers came out of the locker room rejuvenized and went on a 7-0 run through the first 3 minutes of the second half, cutting the lead to 40-26. Randarius Hughes sparked the Eagles with a layup that he got fouled on. He made the free throw, and the Eagles went on an 8-2 run of their own, 48-28, with 14:02 to play. Hughes finished he game with a team high 20 points. With 6:00 left to play, the Tigers went to a full-court press and cut the lead down to 9 with 4:00 to play, 63-54. The Eagles would make 9 of 12 free throws down the stretch to secure the 80-72 win.

The Eagles will face the Jones Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. for the Region 23 Championship tomorrow in the A. E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College. You can watch it live at mcceagles.live/white-channel.
