Legends of the Game with Chipper Jones Raises Big Night for MCC Baseball
MERIDIAN, Miss. – Meridian Community College Baseball welcomed a packed house to campus Saturday evening for Legends of the Game: A Night With Chipper Jones, a special fundraising event that brought one of baseball's all-time greats to Meridian in support of the Eagles program.
The night began inside the MCC baseball locker room, where Jones met privately with the Eagles team. He greeted each player, answered questions, and shared advice drawn from his Hall of Fame career. The moment carried special meaning for the program, as Jones' son, Matthew Jones, serves as an assistant coach for the Eagles.
Following the team meeting, Jones took the field at Scaggs Field to fulfill a unique raffle experience. Local fan Bo Moffett won the opportunity to play catch with Jones, sharing conversation and receiving pointers from the former Atlanta Braves star during the on-field moment.
Jones then met with local media before the evening transitioned to the VIP Social, where guests enjoyed food and drinks, mingled with MCC Baseball players and staff, posed for photos with Jones, and left with signed memorabilia.
A silent auction held in conjunction with the event also played a key role in raising funds for the baseball program. Auction items included exclusive Chipper Jones memorabilia, such as signed jerseys and hats, along with MCC Baseball signed jerseys and helmets and gameday experiences that gave fans behind-the-scenes access to the program.
The main event tipped off at 7 p.m. inside the McCain Theater, where emcee and Voice of the Eagles Robby Atkinson welcomed the crowd. MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner offered opening remarks, speaking to the importance of community support and the impact the event would have on MCC student-athletes.
Head Coach Dillon Sudduth followed, thanking attendees for their support of the baseball program before introducing the Eagles roster. Sudduth and Jones then took the stage together for an engaging conversation covering Jones' playing career, his Hall of Fame induction, fatherhood, coaching, and his time spent with the MCC team and Meridian community. The evening concluded with a fan Q&A session.
The fundraiser was supported through generous sponsorships, led by Pearl River Resort as the Hall of Fame Title Sponsor. MVP Sponsors included Ochsner Rush, Musco Lighting, and Parish Tractor, with All-Star Sponsors Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center and Performance Foodservice. Fan Sponsors included Elite Physical Therapy, Coca-Cola of Meridian, Mid-America League, and Stifel.
"All of this support helps our student-athletes on and off the field," Sudduth said. "It was a meaningful night for our team and our campus."
