Driver’s Power Surge Earns MACCC Player of the Week Honors
MERIDIAN, Miss. — Meridian Community College freshman Jacob Driver has been named the MACCC Baseball Position Player of the Week after a dominant stretch at the plate in conference play.
Driver turned in a standout week for the Eagles, helping lead Meridian to a 3-1 record in four games against No. 4 Jones College and Mississippi Delta.
The freshman slugger made an immediate impact against Jones, launching two towering home runs over 450 feet into the parking lot at Scaggs Field in game one, finishing with three runs scored and four RBIs in the Eagles' 14-4 run-rule victory. He followed that performance with another home run and three more RBIs in game two.
Driver carried that momentum into the weekend series against Mississippi Delta, where he added a double, another home run, and two RBIs in the doubleheader sweep.
For the week, Driver posted eye-popping numbers, going 7-for-12 (.583) with a double, four home runs, nine RBIs, nine runs scored, four walks, and a stolen base.
Head Coach Dillon Sudduth praised his freshman for earning the conference recognition.
"It's a testament to how hard he's worked to earn his spot in the lineup," Sudduth said. "He's been a big spark for us offensively and continues to improve each time out."
Driver and the Eagles will look to keep the momentum rolling Wednesday as Meridian travels to Perkinston for a conference matchup against Mississippi Gulf Coast.
