Eagles Soar Past Royal Ambassadors in Dominant Home Victory
MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Meridian Community College men's basketball team put together its most complete performance of the young season Tuesday night, rolling past the Royal Ambassadors of Jackson, Miss., 98–51 inside Graham Gymnasium. The win moves the Eagles to 2–3 overall.
After the Lions opened the game with the first bucket, the Eagles took control immediately, going on a 16–0 run and building a commanding 33–5 lead midway through the first half. Meridian carried that energy throughout the night, heading into halftime with a 53–18 advantage.
The second half was more of the same as the Eagles continued to dominate on both ends of the court, with 12 different players scoring in the blowout victory.
Freshman Fred Motley led Meridian with 19 points, continuing his impressive start to his collegiate career. Sophomore Ju'Juan Ray added 11 points, while freshman KJ Barnes contributed 9 points in the win.
Head Coach Clarence Weatherspoon was pleased with the team's effort and the chance to get extended minutes for his bench.
"This was the kind of game we needed," Weatherspoon said. "Our guys came out focused and played with energy from start to finish. It was good to see so many players contribute and build confidence moving forward."
The Eagles (2–3) will hit the road Thursday, traveling to Selma, Ala., for a rematch against Wallace Community College–Selma. The two teams last met on Nov. 5 in Meridian, where Wallace–Selma earned a 58–50 win.
