Entering his third season as head coach of the Meridian Community College men's basketball program, Clarence Weatherspoon continues to bring a wealth of experience and an impressive basketball pedigree to the Eagles. A former NBA standout and Southern Miss legend, Weatherspoon is committed to building a competitive program while developing student-athletes on and off the court.

Prior to joining Meridian, Weatherspoon served as an assistant coach at Jones College for two seasons and spent six years as an assistant coach at Southern Miss from 2016 to 2022. He also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Ridgeland High School. Beyond basketball, Weatherspoon has found success in the private sector as CEO of 3535 Entertainment, where he managed contract negotiations, artist development, and tour support for a variety of artists.

Weatherspoon's basketball career ranks among the most accomplished in Southern Miss history. Playing under legendary coach M.K. Turk, he scored 2,130 career points, ranking second all-time in school history. As a senior, he averaged 22.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while finishing his collegiate career with averages of 18.5 points and 11.3 rebounds. He helped lead the Golden Eagles to the first two NCAA Tournament appearances in program history in 1990 and 1991.

Among his many collegiate honors, Weatherspoon remains the only three-time Metro Conference Player of the Year and is the conference's all-time leading rebounder. Internationally, he represented Team USA at the Goodwill Games, earning a silver medal, and at the Pan American Games, where he captured a bronze medal.

Weatherspoon was selected ninth overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1992 NBA Draft and made an immediate impact, setting a franchise rookie record with 1,290 points. During his second NBA season, he recorded 45 double-doubles, the seventh-most in a single season in league history. Over a 13-year NBA career, Weatherspoon averaged 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, and Houston Rockets. He also finished as runner-up in the 1993 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Widely respected throughout the basketball community, Weatherspoon brings decades of playing, coaching, and leadership experience to Meridian Community College as he continues to guide the Eagles program forward.
