MERIDIAN, Miss. – Meridian Community College men's soccer opened the 2025 regular season in commanding fashion Thursday night, rolling past Tougaloo College 15-0 at C.D. Smith Field.
The Bulldogs arrived short-handed with just eight players, and the Eagles wasted no time capitalizing. Sophomore Joseph Hernandez struck first from the penalty spot in the 9th minute to set the tone. Just minutes later, sophomore Alex Tabachnikov doubled the lead, and the floodgates opened. Hernandez would add another before halftime, joined by goals from freshmen Matthew Todd and Hayden Parrish, along with sophomore Matias Miyahira. At the break, MCC held a commanding 7-0 advantage.
The second half saw no slowdown as Meridian continued its offensive showcase. Sophomore Brandon Brown netted two goals, and teammates Rivers Dronet, Darius Pyron, and Jared Aguilar each added one. Freshman Aldo Sanchez found the back of the net, while freshman Cindey Garcia scored twice to record his first career goals as an Eagle.
Head Coach Diego Figueroa was pleased with his team's effort from start to finish.
"I'm proud of the way our guys stayed focused and played a complete match," Figueroa said. "It gave us an opportunity to get everyone involved and start the season the right way."
The Eagles return to action at home on Tuesday, Aug. 26, when they host Northeast Alabama at 6 p.m. Fans can watch the game live at mcceagles.live/green or purchase tickets online at mcceagles.com/tickets.
