MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Meridian Community College men's soccer team delivered a commanding 4-0 victory over East Mississippi Wednesday night at C.D. Smith Field, capping off a successful Pink Out doubleheader for the Eagles.
The night's atmosphere was electric from the start as the Eagles took the field under flashing lights and a roaring home crowd—led by the MCC women's volleyball team cheering from the stands. Both teams traded possessions early before freshman Moses Bernard struck first for the Eagles in the 20th minute to give Meridian a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Bernard's fifth of the season, keeping him second on the team in scoring.
Just two minutes later, the Eagles' leading scorer, sophomore Jason Guerrero, added to his total with his 14th goal of the year, extending the lead to 2-0. Before halftime, freshman John Paul Mattina found the back of the net for his first career goal as an Eagle, sending Meridian into the locker room up 3-0.
In the second half, the Eagles kept their momentum rolling as freshman Matthew Todd buried a goal to make it 4-0, triggering one final light show celebration from the energized crowd. Sophomore goalkeeper William Dickerson anchored the defense, recording a shutout with several key saves throughout the night.
Head Coach Diego Figueroa praised his team's performance and the energy surrounding the match.
"Our guys fed off the atmosphere tonight," Figueroa said. "The crowd was incredible, and it made the win even more special. I'm proud of how we stayed focused and executed from start to finish."
The victory gave Meridian a clean sweep over East Mississippi, as both the men's and women's teams picked up wins on Pink Out Night. The Eagles (6-4-3, 2-3-1 MACCC) will now turn their attention to a conference matchup on the road against Hinds in Raymond on Friday.
