MCC Tennis Earns Pair of Wins Over MMI
MERIDIAN, Miss. — The Meridian Community College men's and women's tennis teams earned a pair of convincing victories Monday at the Wanda McPhail Tennis Courts, defeating Marion Military Institute in dual match action.
The 23rd-ranked Lady Eagles rolled to an 8-1 win over the Lady Tigers. Meridian swept all six singles matches and secured two of three doubles contests to take control of the match from the start.
On the men's side, the 18th-ranked Eagles defeated the 21st-ranked Tigers 7-2. Meridian swept doubles play to build early momentum and followed up by winning four of six singles matches to seal the team victory.
Head coach Tavis Rieger was pleased with the effort across both lineups.
"Our Eagles showed strong resolve today to put together two team wins over quality MMI opponents," Rieger said. "It's a great day to highlight freshmen earning their first dual match wins today."
Freshmen Michaela Mayerhoff, Piper Collins and Jackson Grady each captured singles victories, giving the trio an early boost of confidence as the spring season continues.
The Eagles return to the courts Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they host Millsaps College in a match that was previously rescheduled due to travel issues.
