Eagles Ready for NJCAA Division II National Championship in Texas
MERIDIAN, Miss. — The Meridian Community College men's tennis team is set to compete on the national stage next week as the Eagles travel to Plano, Texas for the NJCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship held May 11-15 at the Collin College Tennis Facility.
The national tournament will feature separate Division I and Division II championships, giving Division II programs a larger spotlight and more opportunities to compete for national recognition.
The Eagles enter Nationals after finishing the regular season ranked No. 22 in the ITA Rankings and making an appearance in the Region 23 Tournament in Ellisville hosted by Jones College.
Teams will arrive Sunday for tournament check-in, seeding meetings, and the championship banquet before match play officially begins Monday morning. Matches are scheduled to begin daily at 8 a.m.
The championship format will feature:
- Six singles flights
- Three doubles flights
- Team points awarded for each match victory
- Players dropping into the consolation bracket after an opening-round loss
Head Coach Tavis Rieger spoke highly of the opportunity for his team to represent MCC on the national stage.
"It's an amazing accomplishment for our student-athletes to compete at Nationals and represent Meridian Community College," Rieger said. "We're excited for the opportunity and looking forward to competing against some of the best teams in the country."
The Eagles will also look to continue the momentum built by the women's tennis program, which finished 13th nationally at the NJCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship in Sumter, South Carolina last week.
Tournament seedings, brackets, and daily match updates will be posted throughout the week on MCC Athletics social media channels. The official live results link will also be shared once it becomes available.
