"Congratulations to Jared for his championship victory this week," Rieger said. "He stayed the course by winning three straight three-setters against strong competition. As a coach, it's a great experience to celebrate the level of play and to be part of the accomplishments when a player is competing at high levels and this week Jared created that opportunity."
Escobar also reflected on the emotional championship run following the historic victory.
"This week was one of the hardest and most unforgettable weeks of my life," Escobar said. "It was not only difficult because of the opponents I had to face, but also because this was my last tournament."
"I want to thank God," Escobar continued. "I also want to thank my team for always being there for me. Thank you to my coach for staying with me through every match. I am truly grateful for every single person who was part of this experience."
Rieger also reflected on the team's overall performance during the national tournament.
"I am thankful for the Nationals experiences with our Eagles over the last two weeks," Rieger said. "Our student-athletes played their best tennis of the year and represented Meridian at the highest levels. As we highlight our singles individual champion, it was supported by great play across our lineup that helped us earn a Top 10 team result."
