MERIDIAN, Miss. — The Meridian Community College softball team continued its strong start to the 2026 season Friday afternoon, sweeping Lurleen B. Wallace in a home doubleheader at Tommy McDonald Field. The Eagles claimed an 11-3 run-rule victory in six innings in game one before closing out the day with a 7-4 win in game two to improve to 9-4 on the season.
Game One – Eagles Explode Late for Run-Rule Win
Meridian wasted no time getting on the board in the opener as sophomore Raegan King launched a two-run home run in the first inning — her fifth of the season — to give the Eagles an early advantage.
The Lady Saints trimmed the lead to one before Presley Black answered with an RBI triple in the third inning. The Eagles continued to add on in the frame and carried a 5-1 lead into the fourth.
LBW again cut into the deficit, plating two runs to make it 5-3, but Meridian pulled away for good with a three-run fifth inning and another three-run surge in the sixth to secure the 11-3 run-rule victory.
Black, Isabella White, and Delaney Perry each recorded triples in the opener, highlighting a strong offensive showing. In the circle, Hannah Capello tossed a complete game, allowing three earned runs while striking out two.
Game Two – King's Inside-the-Park Blast Lifts Eagles
The nightcap proved more competitive early, but Meridian once again set the tone with a 2-0 first-inning lead and extended it to 3-0 after two innings of play.
LBW battled back in the third, scoring three runs to even the game at 3-3. Both defenses settled in until the fifth inning, when King delivered once again — this time with a three-run inside-the-park home run to swing momentum back in Meridian's favor at 6-3.
The Lady Saints managed a run in the sixth, but the Eagles responded with an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning and closed the door in the seventh for the 7-4 victory.
White earned the start in game two, pitching five innings while allowing three earned runs and striking out five. Aubree Jones sealed the win with two strikeouts in the seventh to record the save.
Head Coach Brad Grinstead was pleased with the effort from his squad.
"It's always good to win at home in front of the crowd," Grinstead said. "We were able to get some girls valuable playing time and continue building confidence early in the season."
Meridian returns to action Tuesday with a road doubleheader against Marion Military Institute in Marion, Ala., beginning at noon. The Eagles previously swept MMI at home on February 10.
