Mitchell Earns MACCC Player of the Week Honors After Power-Packed Performance
MERIDIAN, Miss. — Meridian Community College sophomore Mollie Mitchell has been named the MACCC Softball Position Player of the Week following a standout performance at the plate that helped lead the Eagles to a 4-2 week.
The Hattiesburg native turned in an impressive stat line, collecting 10 hits, including three home runs, a double, and a triple, while driving in eight RBIs and adding two stolen bases.
One of her biggest moments of the week came against Holmes, when Mitchell blasted a three-run home run to tie the game, sparking a comeback that led to a run-rule victory for the Eagles.
Meridian's 4-2 week included two closely contested losses to No. 3 Pearl River, along with conference wins on the road at East Central and a home sweep over Holmes.
Head Coach Brad Grinstead was pleased to see Mitchell's performance recognized by the conference.
"She had a great week at the plate, and it's good to see her get the recognition she deserves," Grinstead said.
The Eagles continue to build momentum late in the season, having surpassed the 25-win mark and currently sitting in position for postseason play as conference action winds down.
Meridian will look to continue its strong play Wednesday when the Eagles travel to Ellisville to face No. 6 Jones College in a conference doubleheader.
