Smith Earns Back-to-Back MACCC Player of the Week Honors
MERIDIAN, Miss. – For the second straight week, Meridian Community College sophomore forward Terica Smith has been named the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Smith continued her dominant play in the paint, helping the Lady Eagles remain unbeaten on the early season. The West Point, Miss., native finished the week with 36 points and 18 rebounds across two matchups, highlighted by a career-best performance against Lawson State. In that overtime victory, Smith delivered her first collegiate double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, going 11-of-14 from the free-throw line and knocking down the first three-pointer of her college career.
Her weekly averages were impressive across the board, posting 18 points per game, 57.1 percent shooting from the field, and 78.6 percent from the free-throw line. Smith's performance was even stronger than her award-winning week prior, solidifying her status as one of the conference's most impactful players.
"Terica has been phenomenal for us," said MCC head coach Jocelyn McGilberry. "She's playing with confidence, leading this team, and doing all the things she worked hard on in the offseason. It's special to see her be recognized again."
With Smith anchoring the frontcourt, the Lady Eagles improved to 5-0. MCC now turns its attention to a Thursday road test at Wallace State Community College–Selma, a team the Lady Eagles defeated 60-45 earlier this month.
