MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Meridian Community College women's soccer team opened its 2025 season Monday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against LSU-Eunice at C.D. Smith Field.
The contest was tightly played from the opening whistle, with both teams trading possessions but finding limited scoring opportunities. After a scoreless first half, the Lady Bengals struck first in the 70th minute to take the lead.
Facing a late deficit, the Lady Eagles showed their resilience. In the 82nd minute, freshman Flo Rigby found the back of the net off an assist from fellow freshman Mira Weber to level the match at 1-1. Neither side could break through again, as the game ended in a draw.
Head Coach Mike Smith, now in his 13th season leading MCC women's soccer, praised his team's determination. "A lot of teams would quit when they got down late, but our group kept battling and earned a well-deserved tie against a tough opponent," Smith said.
The Lady Eagles return to action Thursday, Aug. 28, when they host Mississippi Gulf Coast at 7 p.m. in non-conference play. Fans can watch live at mcceagles.live/green or purchase tickets at mcceagles.com/tickets.
