Lady Eagles Set Sights on Nationals at NJCAA Division II Championship
MERIDIAN, Miss. — The No. 24 Meridian Community College women's tennis team is set to compete on the national stage as the Lady Eagles travel to Sumter, South Carolina for the NJCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship.
The championship will take place May 2–6 at the Palmetto Tennis Center, with teams arriving on May 1 for seeding, practice, and the championship banquet. Match play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. each day, with awards presented on Wednesday.
Tournament Format & Scoring (Quick Look)
- Flighted tournament format with both singles and doubles play
- Main draw: Two-out-of-three sets with regular scoring
- Backdraw: Format may be adjusted (pro sets or modified scoring) due to weather or scheduling
- Match limits: Maximum of three main draw matches per day per player
- No first-round matchups against teams from the same region
Scoring System:
- First-round main draw win: 2 points
- Bye + win: 3 points
- Each additional main draw win: 1 point
- Backdraw wins: 0.5 points per round
- Backdraw scoring capped to not exceed main draw totals
Head Coach Tavis Rieger is eager for his team to continue building on recent success as they head into the national tournament.
"We are excited to continue our season at Nationals later this week," Rieger said. "Our women will look to build upon one of our best competition days in the regional, as they also close out tremendous academic semesters. It's going to be a great experience for us, and we will make the most of our opportunity."
