Sudduth Earns Career Win No. 400 as Eagles Run-Rule Florida Post Grad
MERIDIAN, Miss. — Meridian Community College baseball delivered a milestone victory Monday afternoon at Scaggs Field, run-ruling Florida Post Grad 10-0 in seven innings to secure head coach Dillon Sudduth's 400th career win.
The victory moves the Eagles to 17-16 overall, while remaining 4-10 in MACCC play in the non-conference matchup.
After a quiet first inning, Meridian's offense came alive in the second. The Eagles plated five runs, highlighted by RBI singles from Nate Trochessett, Graham Jackson, and Chris Fox to take early control.
Meridian continued to build momentum in the third inning, adding three more runs to extend the lead to 8-0.
Following a few scoreless frames, the Eagles capped off the scoring in the sixth inning when Preston Downs delivered a two-RBI single, pushing the advantage to 10-0.
The pitching staff took care of the rest, closing out the game in the seventh to secure the run-rule victory.
Meridian finished with 11 hits and 10 RBIs, with Jackson leading the way with three RBIs.
On the mound, Dan Sinclair turned in a dominant performance, earning the win after tossing five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out six.
William Etheridge and Cole Gideon each pitched an inning in relief to complete the shutout.
While the on-field performance was impressive, the afternoon belonged to head coach Dillon Sudduth, who reached the 400-win milestone in his career. Following the final out, Sudduth was greeted with a celebratory water bath from his players.
Sudduth reflected on the achievement and the program that helped make it possible.
"This means a lot, but it's really about the players and the people who have been part of this program," Sudduth said. "Meridian has meant so much to me, and I'm thankful for every opportunity to coach here."
The Eagles will now turn their attention back to conference play as they travel to Poplarville on Wednesday for a doubleheader against No. 1 Pearl River. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
